random musings

so far i've saved the belongings of 2 people - 1 a handbag and the other a bag of purchases, left on the hook in the cubicle. how vigilant i am! am proud of myself after seeing their appreciation :)

the kids are so cute :)) there was this lil girl who tried to help me clean the toilet by tip-toeing to get soap and wiping the wall with her paper towel. lol. and i think americans are very scared of their kiddos getting lost cos when they wanna pee and the handicap toilet's occupied, they have to leave the strollers and babies outside, but they get their kiddos to sing "ABCs" or "old macdonalds" or sth to ensure their presence. haha. there were 2 such instances which made me smile.

whenever i see the berserker going 360 deg and the ppl inside screaming and the ppl outside staring, it just makes me smile to myself.

yesterday i saw spongebob, patrick and the rugrats dancing around and taking photos with kids. it made me smile too. the park closed at 10pm and i had to stay till 11+pm when all the guests had left in order to close the toilet. i was starving cos my break had been at 3pm so in effect i missed dinner! and it was frustrating having to sweep the floor and wipe the sinks only to have 10 ppl dirtying the place every few minutes. (cos at tt time i was in charge of the front gate restroom, and u know how ppl just have to pee b4 getting out of the park) but it was pretty cool seeing KD at night, cos there were lights at the fountain and it was just a different feeling entirely, what with the lightsticks on sale and all. Hu Meng and I went to Denny's after that for a super belated dinner, and by the time i got back to my room it was maybe 12.50? haha. my roomie tot i had died outside :p heard from Bernard that in Oct there's a special day when the park closes at 1am. lucky i won't be around then else i'll have to work till 2! haha. today wasn't so bad, i wasn't so exhausted and hungry cos even tho the park was supposed to close at 8, i got to leave at 7. prob due to excess labour. Tracy said either i clocked out then or i had to close all 3 restrooms if i stayed -_____- heh so i chose to siam first. walked back alone, lucky the sun hadn't set yet.

ppl here don't turn off the tap.

ppl here are weird - they either queue when in effect only the first few cubicles are occupied, or they rather peer under the cubicle doors to look for legs than just try pushing on the doors to see if they're locked.

ppl here either wash their hands with soap or don't wash their hands at all.

ppl here like smoking.

ppl here like drinking cold drinks even when the weather is cold.

ppl here look damn old. most of my co-workers at area 1 are 15,16 or 18. older ones are like 30+. Aaron guessed i was 19, second guess was 22. haha. he's the second person (after bernard) who tot i'm 19. Marty's worse. he tot i'm 16. he likes kidding ard with me, pretending he's 18 or 16 when he's acty 15. he's quite cute, in a big-brown-bear kinda way but i got a shock when i was walking on the park's streets towards the exit aft work and he was in plain clothes and suddenly came up to me and hugged me -______- i was stunned and he said "u know me right? u know, just now, in the yellow shirt?" me: "ya...i know u". him: "then act like u know me!!" and he tried to hug me again -________- siao leh. that's why i say blacks are either too friendly or not friendly at all. then i realised there was an ang moh girl waiting by the side, looking slightly annoyed and aft tt he ran off with her. siao right.

the most hardworking i've seen is cory. he's super professional, and he always smiles at me. but i saw him twisting his neck just when i entered the storage room during shift rotation and i was horrified. hu meng said he had been doing weird stretching exercises for quite awhile b4 i entered the room. kelly's 16. chris (i can't really rmb his name, cos there was another chris today) is 16 and looks really young and harry-potterish. aaron's 18 and gg to redford(?) college which is near virginia tech. lauren's 15. then there's katherine, bryant, frank, bernard, joann, viola, william, chris and a few more whose names i can't rmb. cos we do shift work, and not everyone comes when i do. so almost every day i see a few new faces. haha. not that they're really new, it's just tt i haven't seen them b4. but of cos i'm the newest. and there're always more guys than girls in ecology.

it's sad tt singapore is so rarely known around here. or should i say americans are just plain ignorant. they haven't been to our side of the globe. most prob have only travelled to the next state. the most promising ones are those who've actually heard of the country "singapore" b4, even though they cld be clueless abt where and wat the heck it actually is about. singapore is so NOT china. and they all find chinese really difficult and wonder how ppl acty learn tt language. hahaha. it's good cos i can complain abt the supervisor to hu meng (in front of the supervisor) and nobody knows what we're talking abt :)

i haven't washed my uniform. don't want everything else to turn yellow. and my khaki pants, i think can wear till it rots haha. unless i finally decide to wear shorts. but my legs have funny itchy bites =(

i haven't played in the park yet!! my friends have gone twice, but our off-days don't coincide and when i have off the park aint open =( but after the 24th of may, the park'll open every day :) but rules will get more stringent and our uniforms will be checked at the gates. they say we can only wear white Ts inside the uniform, and when the bosses said it i was wearing my dark-pink-with grey-sleeves kappa shirt. hahahaha. lucky i wasn't the one they were picking on. but heck, i'll still continue wearing what i want, as long as it doesn't stick out from under the uniform heh.

the blacks really do slack alot. i saw 2 of them taking a smoke break during shift hours but i just smiled and walked past. haha.

moving out of Best Western tmr morning. onward to VCU!! the only downside is that convenience is compromised, cos we have to catch the bus to KD.

i saw the Dominator on it's test-run today, with passengers. whee i wanna try it!!!

some ppl have been to NY alr!! am looking forward to the shopping.

no work tmr and wed cos tmr is move-out day and wed is social security and wachovia application day. shd be gg to the park to look for work on tue and hopefully there'll be transport. some ppl suggested gg to D.C on thur and fri since there's no work (unless on tue we find there is) but then i'll have to find a roomie. cos those i'm likely to be going with are all guys. if i even go at all. my friends will be working all week other than mon and wed.

many a time i find that guys are more reliable than girls.

and male supervisors are nicer than female ones! coworkers too!

i think my standard of cleanliness is amazing. am such a responsible toilet cleaner. even tho most of the time i can't bring myself to wipe the toilet seats and i have to hold my breath like 30 times a day. and the air-freshener or duno-wat sometimes makes a stinging smell in the toilet that causes my nose to be itchy and runny. maybe it's just somebody's perfume hahaha.

i finally got a calling card! USD10 from employee services. am not very sure how to use it yet, so shall just save it for emergencies. heh.

i seem to have more luggage than when i arrived.

it seems that every park visitor goes home with HUGE stuffies. i saw a really nice turtle draped over somebody's back today. and i see ppl lugging toys all over the place. some are larger than the adult.

i saw another eagle today =)) it gives me that extra boost to walk around with my pan and broom and my head held high :))

i realised the importance of toilet cleaners like us cos the frontgate toilet was in a disastrous state when no one was assigned to it for just 1 hour. there was toilet paper everywhere, on the floor of almost every cubicle, outside the cubicles, on the sinks....and it dawned on me how bad things cld get without us. so don't undermine dirty jobs k!

am working at area 4 next wk. new ppl, new environment. again.

ooh i forgot to mention I GOT MY FIRST PAYCHECK ALREADY. $104.57 for 7 may to 11 may. including housing payment deduction of $22.85.
