If there ever is a famine or drought or war, Jo and I will survive longer. Yesterday, 13 hours in lab and 8 hours between lunch and dinner! I hope we don't break any more records! :S On a brighter note, sunset in the west rocks. =)

I just found out the other day that Mukesh is actually 29 years old. 29!! And he just started on his phD. Oh my. I constantly need to remind myself to be more polite to him and accord him more respect cos any less and I feel like I'm bullying him. (which I'm sure he's already used to anyway) Nevertheless, he's such a nice person we've got to make a constant effort to not laugh at him, at least not when he's around. He's such a poor soul, always getting scolded cos everything always goes wrong for him. Lol.

The funkiest thing in lab has got to be liquid nitrogen (-160 deg!), but the other night I almost toppled the whole tank. Can't imagine what would have happened. Chemical burns? Which is why I'll never try wearing slippers to lab hahaha. Cannot risk losing my toes and having all sorts of toxins, glass and bacteria attacking me.

There seems to be more accidents on the road this year than other years. I never encountered accidents in lanes 1 and 4 at the same part of the highway before. And hearing 2 ambulances on the way to school. One appeared behind me before I could grasp what was going on, and made my heart pound. I thought I was in the way of someone's life. That was the first time anyone gave way to my changing of lanes so willingly, spontaneously and promptly. Singaporeans do have a heart afterall. The other was when I was on another highway, in the opposite direction. What a bad morning. Made me late, and screwed up some stuff.

Anyways, I got around 2mg of purified protein already. Not really a cause for celebration but at least everything's been going relatively smooth and if all goes well I won't have to culture bacteria anymore and I can move on to more sophisticated stuff. There's so much to learn in the world of science, there are really no boundaries. After getting your bachelor's, it's like just the beginning of everything. The tip of the iceberg. Just the initiation ceremony. Almost everything else is new. I hope I don't get too lost in the world of research and forget my chinese stuff though. I like TCM cos there are endless possibilities. There are no standard protocols, no hard and fast rules, no dead ends. Which represents a world of hope and diversity. The light at the end of the tunnel. (if you manage to find it)

For now, let me have a good weekend before chionging again next week. I really hope we don't stay past 10. There's been a worrying trend the past few weeks.

I've been thinking, and have always thought, that it'd be really cool to know many languages. To be able to understand and converse in French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Thai, Punjabi...I've always been fascinated by the different languages. It's the thing I'd be proudest of if I'd mastered them from young and had people to learn from and practice with. When you're old, everything just gets harder.
